JEE Main 2027 is the national engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). For Odisha students, it matters even more: your JEE Main rank is generally the basis for B.Tech admission in Odisha's colleges through OJEE counselling, and it also opens the door to NITs and IIITs, including NIT Rourkela and IIIT Bhubaneswar.
Latest update (13 October 2026): NTA has published the tentative Session 1 exam dates (22 to 30 January 2027) in its examination calendar. The registration and information bulletin have not been released yet. All other dates below are expected. We will update this page as soon as NTA publishes the notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Final rules will be in the information bulletin. Based on recent years:
- No age limit to appear in JEE Main.
- You should have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027.
- You can attempt JEE Main for three consecutive years from the year you first pass Class 12.
- Your subjects should include Physics and Mathematics, along with Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject, as per the bulletin.
Important for admission: Eligibility to appear in JEE Main is different from eligibility for admission. NITs, IIITs and Odisha state colleges set their own minimum marks in Class 12. Check each institute's rules before you fill choices.
How JEE Main Is Used for B.Tech Admission in Odisha
This is where Odisha students often get confused. In simple terms:
| Admission route | How it works |
|---|---|
| Odisha colleges (state counselling) | Your JEE Main rank is generally used by the OJEE Committee for B.Tech counselling. You must separately register for OJEE counselling when it opens. |
| NIT Rourkela, IIIT Bhubaneswar and other centrally funded institutes | Admission through JoSAA counselling, based on JEE Main rank (and JEE Advanced for IITs). |
| IIT Bhubaneswar | Requires JEE Advanced, which you can attempt only after qualifying JEE Main. |
Key point: Even if you take JEE Main, you do not automatically get a seat in Odisha's colleges. You must complete the OJEE counselling registration and choice filling when the OJEE Committee announces it. Read our OJEE 2027 guide for the other OJEE courses.
Seat rules (including Odisha domicile benefits and reservation) are decided by the OJEE Committee and the counselling brochure, so always read the latest notice.

JEE Main 2027 Syllabus
The syllabus is based on Class 11 and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, as published by NTA. Download the latest syllabus from the information bulletin. If you are in Odisha board (CHSE), compare the CHSE syllabus with the JEE syllabus and cover the extra topics early.
Preparation Tips for Odisha Students (October to January)
- Do not leave boards behind. CHSE exams are in February to March, so balance both. See our CHSE Plus 2 Exam 2027 guide.
- Finish the syllabus by December and use January for mock tests.
- Take full-length mock tests in CBT mode every week.
- Analyse mistakes, not just scores. Keep an error notebook.
- Practise numerical questions. There is no negative marking for them.
- Use previous year papers to understand repeated topics.
- Plan for both sessions. Session 2 is a second chance to improve your percentile, and the better score is used.
