OJEE counselling is the step where you actually get a seat in an Odisha college. Clearing OJEE or having a JEE Main rank is only the first half. You must also register, fill choices, lock them and accept your seat during counselling, which is run by the OJEE Committee, Government of Odisha.
Status (14 October 2026): The OJEE 2027 counselling schedule has not been announced. The dates below are expected, based on the 2026 cycle. We will update this page when the official notice is out on ojee.nic.in.
This guide explains the full process in simple steps, using the 2026 schedule as a reference.
Who Needs to Take Part in OJEE Counselling?
| Candidate | Counselling needed? |
|---|---|
| First-year B.Tech students using JEE Main rank | Yes, you must register for OJEE counselling |
| Students with an OJEE rank (for example B.Pharm, MBA, MCA, M.Tech and others) | Yes |
| Lateral Entry (LE) B.Tech (diploma or B.Sc holders) | Yes, through LE-Tech counselling |
| Special / 2nd OJEE candidates | Yes, for vacant seats after earlier rounds |
Having a rank does not give you a seat automatically. If you miss counselling registration or choice locking, you will not be considered for allotment.

OJEE Counselling Process: Step by Step
The whole process is online. In 2026 you did not need to visit any centre for registration or choice filling.
Step 1: Register for counselling
- Visit the official OJEE website (ojee.nic.in).
- Open the counselling registration link.
- Enter your OJEE registration number or JEE Main details, as asked.
- Fill in the required details and pay the counselling fee online (the amount will be in the official notice).
- Download and save the registration slip.
Step 2: Fill your choices
Choice filling is the most important step. Your seat depends on the order of your choices.
- Check the list of participating institutes and available courses before you start.
- Add as many choices as you really want. More choices means more chances of a seat.
- Put your most preferred college and branch at the top.
- Only add options you would actually join. If you are allotted a seat higher on your list, you may be unable to get a lower one later, depending on the rules.
Step 3: Mock allotment
The committee usually shows a mock allotment before the real one. Use it to see where your rank might land, and edit your choices before locking.
Step 4: Lock your choices
Lock your final choices before the deadline. Unlocked choices may not be counted. In 2026 the Round 1 locking deadline was 4:00 PM on 29 June.
Step 5: Seat allotment
Seats are allotted based on your rank, category and the order of your choices. The result is shown on the portal. Log in to see your allotted college and branch.
Step 6: Accept your seat
After allotment, you generally choose one of these options (confirm exact names and rules in the notice):
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| Freeze | You accept the seat and stop. You will not take part in further rounds for an upgrade |
| Float | You accept the seat for now, but remain in the process for a better option in the next round |
| Slide | You accept the seat, but ask for a better branch in the same college, if one is available |
| Withdraw / exit | You leave the process, as per the rules and window |
Step 7: Reporting
- Pay the seat acceptance fee online within the deadline.
- Complete online reporting.
- Report in person to the allotted institute with your original documents.
Documents Needed for OJEE Counselling
Keep these ready in advance (the official list is in the notice):
- OJEE or JEE Main rank card and admit card
- Class 10 certificate (date of birth proof)
- Class 12 marksheet and pass certificate
- Diploma or degree marksheet (for lateral entry and PG courses)
- Category certificate (SC, ST, SEBC), if applicable
- Odisha domicile or residence certificate, if you are claiming state benefits
- PwD or other special category certificate, if applicable
- Transfer certificate and migration certificate
- Passport-size photographs
- Valid ID proof
Tip: Start collecting caste and residence certificates months in advance. Delays in these documents are the biggest reason students lose a seat.
OJEE Counselling Rounds
In 2026, counselling ran in multiple rounds:
- Round 1: the first allotment for everyone who registered and locked choices.
- Round 2 (upgrade round): gives a chance to improve your seat if you chose float.
- Round 3 / final round: fills remaining seats.
- Special / 2nd OJEE round: seats for the second OJEE and new JEE Main rank holders come only from seats left vacant after earlier rounds.
This means popular colleges and branches usually fill up in the first rounds, so make your choices carefully from the start.
OJEE Lateral Entry (LE-Tech) Counselling
Diploma and B.Sc holders who want direct entry into the second year of B.Tech follow a separate LE-Tech counselling. In 2026:
- It was web-based on the OJEE website.
- Registration, fee payment, choice filling and locking were all online.
- Seats were allotted across three rounds.
- Round 1 allotment came out on 2 July 2026.
The same advice applies: fill many choices, order them carefully and lock on time.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Missing the locking deadline. This is the number one reason students are left out.
- Filling too few choices. You may end up with no seat.
- Putting a safe choice at the top and your dream college below it.
- Choosing "freeze" too early if you wanted to try for an upgrade.
- Not keeping documents ready, especially the domicile and caste certificates.
- Ignoring the reporting date. A seat can be cancelled if you do not report or pay on time.
- Trusting only unofficial websites. Check the notice on the official OJEE website.
How to Choose a College and Branch
- Check last year's cutoffs (opening and closing ranks) for your category.
- Look at the branch, not just the college name. A good branch in a decent college often beats a weak branch in a famous one.
- Check fees, hostel and location.
- Look at placement and faculty details from official or reliable sources.
- Make a realistic list: a few dream choices, many realistic ones and a few safe ones.
