What is WBCAP? Why Does It Matter for You?

Before WBCAP, West Bengal UG admissions were a mess. Students had to apply to each college separately, track multiple merit lists, and rush around managing different deadlines. Not anymore.

Here's why WBCAP is the game-changer for WB students:

  • One Application, 459 Colleges — Apply once and get considered by every participating government and aided college in one go
  • 7042 Courses — BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, Vocational and more across all streams
  • Merit-Based, Transparent — Selection is purely based on your Class 12 marks — no donations, no backdoor
  • Online, Paperless — From application to admission confirmation, everything is done digitally
  • No Missed Deadlines — One central portal means one set of dates to track

Who Can Apply? Eligibility

If you're wondering whether you're eligible, here's the simple answer:

  • Students who have passed Class 12 (Higher Secondary or equivalent) from any recognised board — WBCHSE, CBSE, ISC, or others
  • Students from outside West Bengal can also apply — the portal is open to all recognised board pass-outs
  • There is no specific age limit for most UG programmes
  • Minimum marks requirement varies by college and course — check individual college cut-offs at wbcap.in

Streams and Courses Available

Stream Popular Courses

How to Check WBCAP 2026 Merit List — Step by Step

The Phase 1 Merit List is already out. Here's exactly how to check it:

  1. Open wbcap.in on your phone or computer
  2. Click on "Student Login"
  3. Enter your registered email / application number and password
  4. On your dashboard, look for "Allotment Status" or "Merit List"
  5. Your seat allotment details — college name, course, and round — will appear
  6. If allotted — download your Allotment Letter immediately
  7. Pay the semester fee online before 15 June 2026 to confirm your seat

Important: Do not just check your status and leave. You must complete the online fee payment before the deadline to actually secure your seat. Checking alone does not confirm admission.

What Happens After You Get Allotment?

Once you see your name in the merit list, you have two choices:

Option What It Means
Confirm Seat (Accept) You're happy with the college. Pay the fee, done. No further rounds needed.
Opt for Upgrade Round Accept the current seat but also try for a better college in the Upgrade Round on 20 June. Safe option — you don't lose your current seat.

Brinto.in Tip: If you got a seat but it's not your first-choice college — always go for the Upgrade Round. You keep your current seat as a safety net while trying for something better. Don't reject without a backup!

Upgrade Round — 20 June 2026

The Upgrade Round is for students who:

  • Were allotted a seat in Phase 1 but want a better college or course
  • Or opted to stay in the process for a higher-preference allotment

What you need to do:

  • After Phase 1 admission confirmation, select the Upgrade option in your portal dashboard
  • The Upgrade Round Merit List drops on 20 June 2026
  • If you get a better allotment — confirm it by 23 June 2026
  • If you don't get a better option — your original Phase 1 seat remains safe

Mop-Up Round (Phase 2) — July 2026

After Phase 1 and the Upgrade Round, seats that remain vacant go into the Mop-Up Round. Here's the timeline:

  • 7 July 2026 — List of vacant seats published at wbcap.in
  • 7–16 July 2026 — Fresh applications accepted for remaining seats
  • 19 July 2026 — 2nd Merit List (Phase 2 allotment) released

If you missed Phase 1 registration or didn't get selected in earlier rounds, the Mop-Up is your second chance. Watch for the vacant seats list on 7 July.
