Passport Fee Increased from 1 July 2026 — All New Charges Explained
Big update for everyone planning to apply for a passport! The Government of India has officially revised Indian passport fees with effect from 1 July 2026 under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This is the first passport fee revision in 14 years — the previous revision was done in 2012.
The new fee structure applies to all types of passport applications — fresh passports, renewals (reissue), Tatkal (urgent) applications, lost or damaged passport replacements, and minor passports — for both Indian residents and Indians living abroad.

Why Were Passport Fees Revised?
Indian Passport fees have been revised after 14 years — the previous revision was done in 2012. The fee hike covers all categories including new, renewal, normal, tatkal, minor, lost and damaged passports. The MEA stated the revision is necessary to cover rising operational costs of the Passport Seva Project, which includes Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), IT infrastructure, and processing costs.
The revision was announced around Passport Seva Divas, during which the MEA also reiterated that a passport is primarily a travel document and not a standalone proof of Indian citizenship.

Additional PSK Fee
An additional PSK fee of ₹500 is charged for every passport application, including Tatkal services. This is over and above the passport fee — so your total cost = Passport fee + ₹500 PSK fee.
Discounts Available
There will be a 10% discount in the passport fee for fresh applications (not for re-issue) for minors up to the age of 8 and senior citizens above the age of 60.
