What is OTET?

The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is a state-level qualifying examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha. It determines the eligibility of candidates who wish to become government teachers in Odisha for Classes 1 to 8.

  • Paper I — for candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Level)
  • Paper II — for candidates who want to teach Classes 6 to 8 (Upper Primary Level)
  • Candidates can appear for one or both papers in the same session

Once you qualify OTET, you become eligible to apply for teacher recruitment in:

OTET 2026 — Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 21 years
  • No upper age limit — candidates of any age above 21 can appear

Educational Qualification

For Paper I — Primary Level (Classes 1 to 5):

Candidates must have one of the following:

  • Senior Secondary (12th) with minimum 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary with 45% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed (as per NCTE norms 2002)
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks + 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed

For Paper II — Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8):

Candidates must have one of the following:

  • Graduation with minimum 50% marks + 1-year B.Ed
  • Graduation with 45% marks + 1-year B.Ed (NCTE norms)
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks + 4-year B.El.Ed
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks + 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed
  • Graduation with 50% marks + 1-year B.Ed (Special Education)

Note: Candidates appearing in the final year of their qualifying degree / D.El.Ed / B.Ed are also eligible to apply.
